Two Distinctions in One Month…TAG Heuer is on a Roll!

February 2006

TAG Heuer Receives Official Testing Patent from Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property and Wins 2006 Red Dot Design Award

TAG Heuer, the world leader in prestigious chronographs since 1860, has two new awards in its already-full trophy case. On January 13, the Swiss watchmaking legend received “Swiss Patent No CH 695 197 A5” from the Swiss Federal Institute of Intellectual Property (SFIIP), which bestows official patent status to all testing and equipment at TAG Heuer’s laboratories in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland. And on February 12, TAG Heuer received the prestigious 2006 Red Dot Product Design Award for its TAG Heuer Calibre 360 Concept Chronograph, the most accurate mechanical timepiece ever crafted.

The SFIIP is the federal office for patents, trademarks, designs and copyrights and an important hub for intellectual property matters at the international level. Granting TAG Heuer an official “Procédé de Qualification de Montres (Watch Quality Testing)” patent is a prestigious acknowledgement of the brand’s watch making savoir-faire and its unparalleled testing know-how, process and tools battery leading to the subsequent superior quality of its products. By conferring official status to the brand’s laboratory quality control and tooling facilities, the FIIP has recognized, officialized and protected TAG Heuer specific Quality Insurance methods and internally applied parameters. This includes chemical and mechanical constraint testing as well as all forms of sports-activity simulation — everything from Golf to Motor racing or Sailing.

The Red Dot Award is the international seal of quality for outstanding design. With over 4,000 entries from 40 countries, it is one of the most coveted industrial design awards offered and ranks among the largest design competitions worldwide. TAG Heuer won the award in 2002 for its “Physics” Sport Vision eyewear, and in 2005 for the revolutionary, belt-driven MONACO V4 Concept Watch. This year’s winner, the TAG Heuer Calibre 360 Concept Chronograph, represents a quantum leap in mechanical watchmaking accuracy: it is the first mechanical wrist chronograph to measure and display time to 1/100th of a second, thanks to the exceptionally high frequency of its balance wheel, which oscillates at 360,000 beats per hour, 10 times faster than any other wrist chronograph in the history of watch making!

TAG Heuer has set several major milestones in Swiss chronograph history, and continues to lead the industry to ever-new heights of technological innovation. With these latest acknowledgements of its prowess, the brand once again asserts its unique know-how and reaffirms its motto:
“Swiss avant-garde since 1860.”

TAG Heuer, the reference in prestigious sports watches and chronographs since 1860, is now the fourth luxury brand in the world watch market. The Swiss watchmaking legend draws from its active engagement in the world of sports to create the most accurate measuring instruments and sports watches in the world. From the Olympic Games in the 1920s to its new role as official timekeeper and chronograph for the legendary Indy 500, TAG Heuer, in a constant quest for innovation, excellence, performance and prestige, continues to aim ever higher, as reflected in its partnerships with Team McLaren Mercedes in Formula 1 racing, world vice-champion in 2005 with its two drivers Juan Pablo Montoya and Kimi Raïkkönen; and with world number 1 golfer Tiger Woods. With tennis player Maria Sharapova and Hollywood superstars Brad Pitt and Uma Thurman, TAG Heuer more than ever stands for sport and glamour.
