GrandeVitesse: A new sports model from Longines launched specially in France at the French Open in 2007

June 2007

This year for the first time, Longines has become partner to the prestigious French Open, and as the Official Timekeeper, marks the occasion with the launch in Paris of its new Sport Collection.

In celebration of this event, and available exclusively in France during the tournament, before being rolled out across the world later in the year, Longines presents the elegant sports chronograph: GrandeVitesse. With a 42 mm case in stainless steel, the aerodynamic curves and harmonious outline of this watch evoke both performance and elegance, two intrinsic qualities of the brand and of the French Grand Slam event.

The tachymeter on the bezel is graduated in km/h and enables the measuring of a ground speed of about Mach 2, amply sufficient for the fastest serve and calling to mind Longines’ past experiences in mechanical sports, measuring land and water speed records. With a midnight black dial, the sporting spirit of this automatic chronograph is further stressed by the non-slip embossing of the crown, case band and the pushers. The pusher highlighted in bright red enables the activation of the chronograph functions indicated by the same colour on the dial.

A high performance timepiece therefore with a traditional heart in its fine automatic movement, combining precision and elegance in a contemporary form, just like the players themselves on the tennis court competing in this historic tournament.

At the same time, Longines launches in selected points in Europe the elegant lines of its new HydroConquest chronograph with its eloxed aluminium bezel and jet black dial, with bold “12” detail, screwed-down case back and screwed-in crown, offering maximum water resistance to 300m: a high performance watch for high performance sportsmen.
