Chopard acquires new buildings and land to expand production facilities

December 2007

The Chopard Group is looking to the future by increasing its manufacturing capacities and by consolidating its vertically integrated production encompassing over 40 different professions. It has recently acquired new buildings and land in both Geneva and Fleurier.

The Chopard watch and jewellery firm has been enjoying remarkable expansion in recent years. In order to meet growing demand, the group, which already owns two vertically integrated production sites in Switzerland and a third in Germany, has decided to enlarge its infrastructures in Geneva and Fleurier.

Increased production capacity in Meyrin
Since 1974, Chopard has been established in the industrial zone of Meyrin, on the outskirts of Geneva, where it has progressively developed its administrative headquarters and its production workshops.

The latest acquisition took place in July 2007, with the purchase of a 3,200 square-metre neighbouring building on a 9,800 square-metre plot of land.

This follows the 2006 construction of a new hall providing a 2,000 square-metre production area.
All of which means that Chopard now has 24,000 square metres of floor space set in grounds totalling 64,000 square metres. In terms of production, Chopard masters forty different professions in-house, representing a high degree of verticalisation and ensuring the company’s independence in the long term.

Larger manufacturing capacities in Fleurier
In order to keep pace with the substantial development of this site the Chopard Manufacture in Fleurier (Swiss Jura), founded 11 years ago, has recently been extended by an additional building providing a further 2,500 square metres of floor space.
These new acquisitions will enable the family-owned business to enlarge its movement production areas in the future.

Human Resources – Over 100 new jobs created in Switzerland in 2007
In terms of personnel, the group is also experiencing strong growth and has created more than 100 new positions in Switzerland in 2007. At the end of 2007, Chopard employs 1,650 people worldwide.
In Switzerland, over 700 employees work on the Meyrin site, whereas Chopard Manufacture in Fleurier has a staff of 130. Further job creations are planned for 2008.
