Blancpain model again wins popular design poll

The popular annual “Watch of the Year” poll for 2002 has distinguished a Blancpain for the third time since its inception in 1993. The Public's Favorite award went this year to an ultra slim model from Blancpain's Villeret collection. Jury president and master watchmaker Philippe Dufour duly presented the award to Blancpain, the world's oldest watch maker, at a ceremony attended by numerous trade personalities and their guests.

The design underscore the novel aesthetic balance implied in a deliberate shift in traditional wristwatch proportions. The dial's striking new design is nevertheless ultimately inspired by those of traditional pocket watches of earlier centuries.

Fashioned in 18K white gold and featuring an electric blue dial, the winning watch embodies an innovative approach to design, striking in its readiness to challenge so-far undisputed aesthetic canons. Here, watch -hand length, Roman-numeral size, bezel width and lug dimension all contribute to the design's cool, serene harmony.

Exceptional in more ways than one, the design is part of the Villeret collection-part and parcel of the Blancpain story today and tomorrow while reaching back to its corporate roots.

The final selection of 40 participating timepiece will be on exclusive display at the International Museum of Horology in La Chaux-de-Fonds from November 18 to middle of February.
