Les Lunes de Jaquet Droz

February 2004

A complete calendar model, Les Lunes de Jaquet Droz indicates the hours, minutes, date, days, months and lunations with a precision that only a handful of the greatest master-watchmakers can achieve. Its 18-carat gold smoothed and gently rounded case measuring 40.5 millimetres in diameter serves as a precious jewel-case for Jaquet Droz Calibre 6553-4, a mechanical self-winding double-barrel movement with 72-hour power-reserve. It also shows the date and features a “retrograding” moon-phase mechanism - a world first - which displays the lunation in an unprecedented way that reflects the perfect magic of a moonlit night. A lunation lasts 29.5 days. Day after day, the hand indicates the exact phase of the moon until the cycle is complete. On entering a new lunation, it jumps to its point of departure.

“Lancine” type blued steel hands indicate the hours, the minutes and the lunation time. The “crescent moon” blued steel hand points to the date around the rim of the dial, while the day and month appear through an aperture. They stand out in luminous radiance against a slate-grey and opaline silvered dial enhanced with an applied metal ring that is bevelled, drawn out with a file and secured by blued steel screws.
Its transparent sapphire crystal case-back reveals a splendid oscillating weight in 22-carat gold with “sunray” motif, as well as the movement bridges and plate enhanced with the “côtes de Genève” decorative pattern.

Fashioned in keeping with watchmaking traditions and the principles of hand craftsmanship, Les Lunes de Jaquet Droz enshrines emotions and contemporary aesthetics. A truly distinguished timekeeper, it reassures its wearer by proving that the moon is ever present, even by day.
