www.worldwatchweb.com - Ernst Benz hosted a private event featuring Elizabeth Doerr, International watch journalist and author of Twelve Faces of Time: Horological Virtuosos. Local patrons, enthusiasts and members of the watch forum, Time Zone, celebrated the ribbon cutting of the world’s first Ernst Benz boutique and Ms. Doerr signed copies of her book. Highly regarded by watchmakers and collectors as well, Doerr’s, Twelve Faces of Time, tells the stories of twelve of the industry’s most colorful artists through narrative and artistic photography.
After taking the helm of Ernst Benz in 2005, Leonid Khankin, a second-generation watchmaker, grew the business through the development of new models inspired by the life and career of the brand’s namesake founder as well as the watches he grew up restoring and admiring. The Great Circle collection is built as a tribute to the spirit of aviation, travel, and the art of watchmaking. Recognized for its exceptional craftsmanship and design that is reminiscent of the aviator watches of the 1940’s and 1950’s, Ernst Benz is now featured in over 150 of the finest stores in cities across the globe.
Located in Universal Watch Company in Birmingham, Michigan, an upscale suburb of Detroit, the architecture and interior of the boutique is designed with a mid-century modern aesthetic that is inspired by the aviation heritage of the Ernst Benz brand and the era during which these timepieces originated. Consistent with Ernst Benz’s modern design within a historical context, the boutique was built within the newly constructed infill to Birmingham’s historic Briggs Building, originally erected in 1902.
