Intended as a classy chronograph for the modern gentleman, the new timepiece is equal parts functional, robust, and stylish.

We’re in the business end of the Autumn season, when the days get darker and colder, and the nights get longer. But that’s no excuse for the modern gentleman to lose a step during the daily grind. At least that’s what Glashütte Original is trying to tell us with its latest timepiece.

We’re talking about the Senator Chronograph Panorama Date, a balanced new watch that provides a dose of causal elegance that is meant to help men confront the weather (and style) challenges of the season.

Fans of the manufactory will recall that this model first premiered in March 2017 at Baselworld with platinum and red gold version. This time around, however, we have a more down to earth and robust 42mm stainless steel version of the watch.

Additionally, it comes with three strap options, a classic black calfskin strap, a surprisingly functional stainless steel bracelet, and the sportiest option: a black rubber strap enhanced by a laser-cut relief pattern.

Giving the Senator a more contemporary look is the luminous blue Super-LumiNova on the white gold hour, minute and stop seconds hands. The illuminating material is also found on the Roman numerals at 6 and 12 o’clock, and on the hour indexes, which produce an impressive blue glow at night.

Readability is also guaranteed during the day, thanks to the polished hands and white details that provide contrasts over the deep black dial.

The characteristic Glashütte Original Panorama Date rounds off the harmonious dial, placed below the counter triad. What I particularly like about the date indicators is that is features two date discs placed on the same level without a central separation bar, giving the watch face a smoother appearance.

Under the hood we get the integrated Calibre 37 chronograph movement with flyback mechanism and 12-hour chronograph counter. As is usually the case from the German brand, the automatic movement offers exceptional precision and delivers an impressive power reserve of 70 hours when fully wound.

Overall, the Senator Chronograph Panorama Date is a well-thought out timepiece that is ideal for daily use by the style-conscious gentlemen.

Producing such excellent high-end watches, who would have thought that Glashütte Original was actually a company that first relied on a group of poor farmer-cum-watchmakers. It has certainly come far over the years, but we’ll save the history of the brand for another day.
