undamentally inspired by industrial design, SevenFriday is all about metals and materials – shiny or matte; chunky technical instruments more at home in a steampunk world. A decade ago, the creative genius discovered that colours, particularly bright ones, could have a transformative effect on an otherwise grey environment. Robots, for instance, were painted bright orange to alert weaker humans to steer clear before their red blood was splattered all over the factory floor.
This realisation – that not only does form follow function, but colour does too – prompted the creation of a completely new set of colourful P-series watches with distinctive silicone animation rings.
Today, ten years later, colour is back! Refined over the brand’s decade-long journey, the new chromatic range has matured. Now rehomed in the more technical PS range, the animation ring is made from a special blend of carbon fibre and coloured resin, the latter matching the dial, strap and Berlac-filled bezel.
- The dial retains its complex multi-layered design with honeycomb cutouts and skeletonised sections, protected by a sapphire crystal. And not only is the crown fancy, with its colourful logo – it’s also useful, screwing down to prevent any accidental water ingress.
Fortunately, some familiar elements remain: the trusted Miyota movement, the distinctive and robust case construction, and SevenFriday’s special NFC chip for secure authentication. But there’s more, including a service warranty extension and access to UPO7F, a collective of like-minded individuals who seize each day as if it were Friday. So seize yours – your watch, that is – before you turn green with envy.
