Louis Vuitton is a part of the LVMH Group (see Dior for details). Founded in 1854 the Louis Vuitton company began life manufacturing a unique form of luggage. The company moved into the fashion wear arena in 1998 and in 2002 successfully launched its Tambour watch collection for ladies and men. Using both quartz and mechanical movements, the Swiss Made watches have a unique 'Vuitton' look and colouring and are available exclusively in 85 of the 315 Louis Vuitton boutiques around the world. Given the policy of LVMH, exact sales figures of the new brand are not available, however the figures bandied around by people in the know suggest that between 5,000 and 10,000 pieces were manufactured in 2002 and that Louis Vuitton's requirements for 2003 are around 5 or 6 times that amount.
