A Star is born – Zenith’s Starissime Tourbillon

June 2005

Zenith

Prior to the springtime shows at an exceptionally dazzling show-biz style launch in Geneva, orchestrated by the inimitable Thierry Nataf the brand’s CEO, Zenith unveiled what he calls “The star to outshine all Stars”.
The first ever genuinely Haute Couture mechanical watch for the ladies … the Starissime Tourbillon. Set with 230 diamonds, this remarkable watch is in 18 carat white gold (40 mm) and is equipped with an El Primero 4029 chronograph movement (36,000 vibrations per hour) with a tourbillon. The case, bezel and horns are set with 117 baguette diamonds (8.70 carats) and the 18 carat white gold and mother-of-pearl dial and appliqué numerals are set with another 112 diamonds (0.292 carats) with the diamond Zenith Star (0.5 carats) replacing the conventional tourbillon bridge. The tourbillon is positioned at 11 o’clock and the carriage completes its turn in one minute. The other features are a 50-hour power reserve, automatic winding in both directions, central rotor on ball bearings, 30-minute counter and 12-hour counter symbolized by a Zenith star at 3 and 6 o’clock, sapphire crystals front and back, and a diamond-set rotor.

As beautiful as it is technically sophisticated, this exciting new Zenith creation looks likely to be the forerunner of a new trend whereby the ladies are initiated into that exclusive world of mechanical watch complications.
As Thierry Nataf says, “If you say everything has been invented in the watch industry, you’re living in the past ... like a guinea pig in a cage running around inside a wheel!”
