BASELWORLD enters a new dimension

March 2004

The World Watch and Jewellery Show, BASELWORLD, opens its doors in Basel from 15 to 22 April 2004. With the new Hall of Universe, built especially for this event, and with a further rise in product presentation quality, BASELWORLD is entering a new dimension. For over 2,100 exhibiting companies and around 80,000 visitors from all over the world, BASELWORLD 2004 will be the industry highlight of the year.

As the world’s leading platform for the watch and jewellery industry, BASELWORLD provides the ideal forum for doing business and networking.

More than 2,100 exhibitors in the watch and jewellery sector from 43 countries plan to unveil their very latest models and collections in stands of an exceptional quality over a total area of 160,000 m2. Once again, many of the exhibiting companies are showing exclusively at BASELWORLD.

The restructuring of BASELWORLD, which began three years ago, is now complete. The positioning of the stands is designed to reflect the structure of the market. Warmly welcomed by exhibitors and visitors alike, this realignment became necessary not least because of the increased overlap between watch and jewellery brands.

This initiative has safeguarded the position of BASELWORLD as the guaranteed premium quality meeting point for the watch and jewellery world. As a truly international Show, with a diversity of products that cannot be found at any other trade fair, this event provides the visitor with a unique showcase of the industry.

Given the importance and status of this event, the Show Management is proud to confirm that BASELWORLD demonstrates that the luxury goods sector is still a reliable and buoyant contributor to the economy even , against the background of today’s global economic situation, which still remains challenging.

Hall of Universe back in Basel

Representatives of the national pavilions in the Hall of Universe will once again be able to welcome their visitors to Basel. The Show Management has made every effort to provide an ideal intrastructure for all its exhibitors. Thanks to this commitment, it has proved possible to extend the size and capacities within the Basel exhibition site for this year’s BASELWORLD. Covering an area of approximately 28,000 m2, this deluxe new venue will house over 800 exhibitors as a unified sector of the Show.

The new and generously designed exhibition complex - known as the Hall of Universe - is the perfect complement to the existing layout in Basel. This means that once again, visitors will find the comprehensive global offering of the Show on a single site.

20 years of the Panel

The imitation and forgery of luxury goods is a problem which affects the luxury goods industry worldwide. For 20 years now, the Panel has made a valuable contribution to the protection of intellectual property rights at BASELWORLD.

The Panel has ensured a considerable reduction in the number of complaints at BASELWORLD, which have now stabilised at a low level. The fall in the number of cases referred to the Panel is also attributable in large measure to the efforts made by participating associations who urge their members to respect intellectual property rights and provide valuable information during the run-up to trade shows. Indeed, the decisions taken by the Panel frequently impact well beyond the Show itself. These decisions form a basis for subsequent rulings by Swiss as well as foreign courts. The Panel has thus become an institution that is highly regarded throughout the world of watches and jewellery. The Show Management considers it important for decisions to be taken rapidly, without intervention by the authorities and without publicity.

Media Centre now on Messeplatz

Once again, visitors to the Show will benefit from further improvements in the services provided at the Show. An example is the relocation of the Media Centre to a central position on Messeplatz. There, in a comfortable and welcoming setting, trade visitors can find a wide selection of daily papers, trade journals and magazines along with full background information on the publications presented. For the first time, visitors will also be able to benefit from the facilities of this conveniently located Media Centre before, during and after their visit to the Show.
