IWC Schaffhausen has announced the launch of a new device: the IWC Connect. In effect, it is a connected watch band, which has already been announced by other brands like Montblanc and Kairos. The idea behind it is to enable owners of IWC timepieces to control their connected environment from the wrist, while also maintaining the integrity of a handcrafted mechanical timepiece.
In other words, it’s one way that traditional mechanical watch brands can enter the smartwatch game half-way, hoping to get the best of both worlds. Let’s see if it works for IWC; its Connect band is supposed to launch in the “coming months”. A surprisingly imprecise promise, for a company in the precision industry, don’t you think?
