Helicopter crash in the Antarctic: pilots located by their Breitling watch

The Breitling Emergency watch enabled two British pilots, Steve Brooks and Quentin Smith, who had set out on an expedition to Antarctica, to be traced. The two men were involved in a helicopter crash around 100 miles from the coast of Antarctica.

After the accident, the survivors deployed the antenna of their watch, transmitting a signal which the rescue services were able to locate. Designed for pilots and crew members, the Breitling Emergency is an instrument-watch incorporating a micro-transmitter which operates on the aviation distress frequency of 121.5 MHz.

With this highly reliable miniaturized transmitter, the Breitling Emergency, the only watch in the world to feature such a system, is enjoying a well deserved success in professional aviation circles.
