“The Art of American Horology”
Prestigious thematic sale in New York on November 28

(New York, NY) - On Wednesday, November 28, Antiquorum will stage its first ever thematic sale in the United States. Entitled, The Art of American Horology, this unprecedented thematic auction will trace the evolution of the American watch market from approximately 1850 to the early 1930's. The peculiarity of the American watch industry is that, as early as the mid-19th century, manufacturers were able to market quality watches that were mass-produced and which could therefore be retailed at accessible prices for everyone. The auction collection, representing brands such as Ball, Bulova, Elgin, Hamilton, Howard, and Waltham, is expected to include some 300 lots and will be previewed at The Grand Havana Room both in Beverly Hills (November 19-20) and in New York beginning on November 26.

In gathering watches for this thematic sale, Antiquorum experts chose to include a variety of watches that were representative of the American market place. Therefore, in addition to watches fitted with entirely American-made movements, the sale will also feature watches made with American cases, but featuring European movements, and in some instances, watches that were made entirely in Europe, but that were intended for and retailed in the American market. Furthermore, there will be a small selection of watches, in some cases by European manufacturers that were once owned and previously worn by prominent figures from American history.
