Mauron Musy: a new sealing technology

Born as a spin-off of a Swiss sub-contractor specialising in exteriors and precision machining for watchmakers, Mauron Musy has built its reputation as much on its groomed aesthetic as on its extremely interesting technological innovation. Its patented gasket-free, direct mechanical sealing technology, christened nO-Ring®, effectively places the brand among the newcomers who upset the apple cart.

orn as a spin-off of a Swiss sub-contractor specialising in exteriors and precision machining for watchmakers, Mauron Musy has built its reputation as much on its groomed aesthetic as on its extremely interesting technological innovation. Its patented gasket-free, direct mechanical sealing technology, christened nO-Ring®, effectively places the brand among the newcomers who upset the apple cart.

The nO-Ring® technology built into the Mauron Musy models combines three principles: mechanical sealing technology, the clamp brace, and the satellite compression spring. As the brand’s co-founders Christophe Musy and Eric Mauron explain, this innovation “propels the mechanical function of water resistance to the status of ‘watch exterior complication”.

The nO-Ring®, which requires 36 components, compared with around ten for a conventional case, offers several advantages – starting with freedom from the maintenance needed to counter the ageing of the polymers used to produce traditional gaskets. The design of the Mauron Musy models, such as the ARMURE MU03 series or the recent GMT Sport, both waterproof down to 300m, is derived directly from this innovation, showcased as a world first in 2015.

The brand has also innovated in relation to the certified origin appellation by launching its own, “Swiss crafted” label. This certifies that its products are designed, executed and manufactured entirely in Switzerland. A clear statement by players who have not forgotten their origins, at a time when the entire fabric of this Swiss industry is threatened by the pandemic crisis.
