Mido's original Baroncelli Heritage Smiling Moon

The moon phases are presented in a highly original manner on this new timepiece, through a wide smile on the dial. Available in two sizes – 39 and 33 mm for him and her –, this Mido creation has been designed like a complementary duo resembling the sun and the moon, the first giving rhythm to the hours and the second to its own calendar. The pure, grained white dial is juxtaposed with the radiant polished steel of the case and link bracelet.

T

he Baroque-influenced neoclassical style of Milan’s Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II expresses the sophistication inherent in Italian architectural tradition. Its rounded shape was the inspiration behind Mido’s Baroncelli design. The subtle references to this prestigious building and its harmonious curves bestow both a rare sense of elegance and timeless style on this collection created in 1976.

The dial of the new Baroncelli Heritage Smiling Moon celebrates the essential. Its grained white surface is enhanced by slender printed baton indexes, while the hands that glide over it are diamond-cut and sandblasted for the hours and minutes, and blued for the seconds.

Above all, it features an utterly unique moon-phase aperture, where a rotating disc reveals the eight main phases of the Earth’s satellite in a star-studded sky. The display at 6 o’clock is simple to read, from the new to the full moon, waxing then waning. A sapphire crystal with an anti-reflective treatment on both sides reinforces this readability.

The Baroncelli Heritage Smiling Moon is integrated into an exceptionally slim steel case, measuring 33 mm for her and 39 mm for him. Its refined lines are accentuated even further by a double gadroon on the bezel, while a polished steel bracelet equipped with seven rows of links and a folding clasp enhance the watch’s radiance.

The crown located on the side is used to wind the movement, as well as to set the time and moon phases.

An automatic mechanical movement powers the Baroncelli Heritage Smiling Moon and its original display: the Mido 1192. The sapphire case back reveals an oscillating weight delicately decorated with Geneva stripes. The gears deliver remarkable accuracy, as they can be adjusted in four different positions, and provide a power reserve of up to 42 hours.

As elegant as it is precise in all circumstances, this new duo of watches is designed to be water-resistant up to a pressure of 3 bar (30 m/100 ft).

Mido unveils an unprecedented presentation of the phases of the moon, which are transformed into a star-studded smile on the dial of the new Baroncelli Heritage Smiling Moon duo.
