Mühle-Glashütte honors 160 years of Sea Rescue with Limited S.A.R. Mission-Timer Edition

To commemorate 160 years of life-saving service on the North and Baltic Seas, Mühle-Glashütte unveils the S.A.R. Mission-Timer “160 Years DGzRS” - a robust, titanium-clad tribute to the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS). Limited to just 160 pieces, this special edition fuses maritime heritage with precision engineering, complete with a topographic dial, symbolic engravings, and a €100 donation per watch to support the fearless rescuers at sea.

A

special edition to mark 150 years of boat-shaped collection boxes and 160 years of sea rescue on both the North and Baltic Seas: In 2025, the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (Deutsche Gesellschaft zur Rettung Schiffbrüchiger, DGzRS) will celebrate an anniversary and a special milestone birthday. With the S.A.R. Mission Timer “160 Years DGzRS”, Mühle-Glashütte is contributing a prestigious timepiece - including a donation of 100 euros per watch for the benefit of the sea rescuers.

150 years of boat-shaped collection boxes and 160 years of DGzRS: both anniversaries of the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS) are reflected in the special edition of the S.A.R. Mission-Timer in a particularly exclusive way. The Mühle watch, which is limited to 160 pieces, not only has a specially designed dial with a red second hand, but also a specially engraved titanium back.

The dial, finished in titanium gray, features both a functional minute track and a fine line structure. This design element makes reference to the location of the German Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre at the DGzRS headquarters in Bremen and depicts the topographical isolines of the North Sea near the mouth of the Weser River in Bremerhaven. The red tip on the second hand is another special feature: This DGzRS-specific color can also be seen on the indices, which appear white during the day. In the dark, the indices glow navy blue and reveal their mysterious red hue under UV light.

On the back of the watch, an elaborately engraved case back bears witness to the connection with the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service, which dates back to 2002 and began with the development of the S.A.R. Rescue-Timer. Since its founding on May 29, 1865, the DGzRS has rescued more than 87,300 people in distress or from danger at sea. Their iconic boat-shaped collection boxes are only ten years younger than the DGzRS itself. Since 1875, these boxes have been a significant source of funding for the sea rescuers and are likely Germany’s most famous collection boxes. Above all, the boxes have an unmistakable symbolic power. They represent the commitment of the volunteers and the organisation’s independence from state or public funding. The engraving on the titanium base depicts the collection box that has symbolized the sea rescuers in the North and Baltic Seas for 150 years now. This is accompanied by the anniversary inscription: “150 Years of Collection Boxes: 160 Years of DGzRS — The Sea Rescuers.” Lastly, the case back bears a specific limited-edition number, making each watch a unique treasure.

Mühle-Glashütte honors 160 years of Sea Rescue with Limited S.A.R. Mission-Timer Edition

This special edition is limited to 160 pieces and boasts the familiar advantages of the S.A.R. Mission-Timer. The 43-mm case is made of lightweight, biocompatible titanium, which means the sporty Mühle watch weighs barely more than 105 grams. The screw-down crown is water resistant up to 50 bar and has a scratch-resistant ceramic bezel surrounding a 2.5-mm-thick, double anti-reflective sapphire crystal. Beneath this, the dial reveals its affiliation to the S.A.R. watch family with its wide, easy-to-read indices, minute markers and distinctive orientation triangles at 3, 6, 9, and 12 o’clock.

The large date display also contributes to the watch’s excellent readability. Around 30 percent larger than comparable watches, it is easy to read the date without a magnifying glass, primarily thanks to the Mühle version’s reliable SW 400-1. In addition to the large date display, the watch is equipped with an efficient Mühle rotor and a particularly shock-resistant woodpecker neck regulation system. This means the automatic movement is elaborately regulated in six positions and set so its rate deviation is between 0 and +8 seconds per day.

With these distinctive features, Mühle-Glashütte has transformed the S.A.R. Mission-Timer “160 Years DGzRS” into a uniquely designed special edition that meets the functional expectations of a sporty, robust Mühle watch, while embodying the nautical virtues of precision, durability and legibility.
