he result of an ongoing collaboration between the Swiss manufacturer and British artist Wotto, whose real name is Craig Watkins, this creation transforms the wrist into an elegant miniature art gallery.
Taking up the emblematic codes of the Aikon collection, this new design stands out by adding a touch of subtle mystery. The stainless-steel case features a gunmetal-colored double PVD treatment that lends it a distinctive charcoal-gray hue, in contrast to the black bezel.
This monochrome palette serves as the perfect exterior for the colorful surprises that discreetly punctuate the watch within. For it’s in the details that all the poetic mysteries of this creation are revealed.
The real master stroke here lies in the harmonious integration of the work from Wotto’s artistic universe. On the charcoal gray dial, the artist’s emblematic characters—including skulls, ghosts and other figures from his fantastic bestiary—are revealed in a tone-on-tone print that creates striking depth.
The minute hand, decorated with a small luminescent ghost, creates an ingenious secret effect when you read the time. Combined with the absence of hour-markers on the dial, these matte black hands adorned with white Super-LumiNova ensure optimum readability while preserving the sleek aesthetic of the piece at large.
A vibrant pink seconds hand snakes across the dial, and this same pink adorns the loops on the black rubber strap equipped with Maurice Lacroix’s Easychange System. The metal buckle echoes the gunmetal gray hue of the caseband.
The most remarkable innovation introduced by this Aikon creation is its revolutionary approach to the date display. Abandoning traditional numerals, Wotto has created 31 unique drawings that follow one another around the date disc, turning each day into an opportunity for the wearer to discover a new, never-before-seen piece of miniature art.
You only need to flip the precious object over to understand the extent of the technical design of Maurice Lacroix’s latest watchmaking feat. The caseback proudly displays the words «Maurice Lacroix x WOTTO» and the edition number of the piece, emphasizing the authenticity of this artis-tic collaboration, which is limited to just 500 pieces. 40 millimeters in diameter and water-resistant up to 100 meters, the case protects the renowned mechanism of the Ronda 515 quartz movement.
Available in Switzerland at a price of CHF 1,200, the Aikon Quartz Wotto Limited Edition is per-fectly in line with Maurice Lacroix’s philosophy of making Swiss watchmaking accessible, without compromising on quality or authenticity. Presented in a box designed especially for the occasion, it makes for the perfect gift, combining style with sophistication.
Since 1975, Maurice Lacroix has united urban style and Swiss craftsmanship while simultaneously delivering high perceived value. Located in the heart of the Franches-Montagnes, the Manufacture has repeatedly demonstrated its watchmaking expertise, producing an array of Manufacture movements, in-house mechanisms and several groundbreaking models, including the Masterpiece Square Wheel (2010), Masterpiece Mysterious Seconds (2013) and the Triple Rétrograde (2021). These innovative watches, along with many others, have proved firm favourites among the watch collecting community and have led to the company receiving more than 15 awards.
In 2014, following requests to bring back the Calypso, a former model that was discontinued in 2003, the brand’s creative team sought to reimagine it for a modern-day audience. Two years later (2016), Maurice Lacroix released the inaugural Aikon, an urban timepiece that immediately resonated with Millennials and Genzers. The collection has proved a box-office sensation, incentivising the Maison to release new expressions of the Aikon. Today, Maurice Lacroix finds inspiration in the world’s great metropolises, capturing the vibrancy of street life and creating watches ideally suited to city living.
