he 1975 Legacy is worn as a statement — a symbol of attachment to a unique territory. Proudly designed in Saignelégier, these two new limited editions of 500 pieces each — adorned with the “Vagues du Jura” (Jura Waves) motif and an engraving of the Marché-Concours Hall — stand out through their refined classicism. Their exceptional quality, a signature of Maurice Lacroix, is born from the excellence of Swiss craftsmanship.

June 23, 1974. The independence of the Canton of Jura is approved — with overwhelming support in the Franches-Montagnes region. This landmark event still inspires a particular sense of pride today.

1975. The first Maurice Lacroix model is created. Production is soon established in Saignelégier, a region with a watchmaking tradition dating back to the 18th century. Characterized by the quality of their materials and finishes, these watches carry the discretion, rigor, and expertise of the Jura region across the world.

Two special editions of the 1975 Legacy tell this dual story, rooted in the same place. Naturally, the patented “Vagues du Jura” motif flows across the dial — in either slate grey or powder silver. Developed in collaboration with a local artisan as a nod to Geneva stripes, the pattern evokes the Jura landscape, the magnificent backdrop of the manufacture. Previously reserved mainly for manufacture pieces, these lines were introduced in 2014 and more formally in 2016 on the dial-side movement of the Masterpiece Gravity.

These distinctive waves continue onto the caseback of the 1975 Legacy, where an impressive engraving takes center stage: the Marché-Concours Hall, with three horses in the foreground. A powerful symbol of the region, this vast building hosts the annual festivities dedicated to Switzerland’s only native horse breed — the Franches-Montagnes horse. The inscription “Maurice Lacroix, Saignelégier” crowns this scene engraved in metal.

These tribute editions naturally find their place within the 1975 collection, Maurice Lacroix’s most classic line. Its historically inspired design revives the iconic spirit of the 1988 “Les Classiques” series, following extensive research in the manufacture’s archives. Reliable, precise, and durable, this retro-modern interpretation combines the Maison’s rich heritage with its contemporary expertise.

A commitment to fine craftsmanship guided every detail of the 1975 Legacy. On the dial, the “Vagues du Jura” are executed using dedicated artisanal expertise. The guilloché small seconds creates a pleated visual effect. The display elements, diamond-cut and finished in 4N gold tone, contrast beautifully with the powder silver or slate grey background. The faceted dauphine-style hour and minute hands, along with the indices, are meticulously hand-applied. At 3 o’clock, the date window, a particularly valued feature in everyday use, appears. Another vintage-inspired detail: a box-style sapphire crystal rises elegantly above the dial.

Borrowed from the Masterpiece collection, the 39 mm stainless steel case features refined finishes: satin-brushed surfaces on top and vertical satin brushing on the sides. Another Swiss-inspired detail, the screw heads securing the caseback — ensuring water resistance to 5 ATM — are shaped like Swiss crosses.

The timeless lines of the 1975 Legacy continue with a black leather strap, enhanced by a polished steel “M” logo treated with 4N gold-tone PVD, along with a butterfly folding clasp. Its exclusive Easy Strap Exchange system allows the wearer to change straps quickly and without tools, adapting effortlessly to different activities and occasions.

At the heart of the 1975 Legacy beats the Swiss automatic ML158 movement. The oscillations of its rotor, decorated with Geneva stripes and spiral finishing, recharge the watch while worn, providing an excellent 60-hour power reserve. Enough to keep its heart beating for a long time to the rhythm of Saignelégier.

Since 1975, Maurice Lacroix has united urban style and Swiss craftsmanship while simultaneously delivering high perceived value. Located in the heart of the Franches-Montagnes, the Manufacture has repeatedly demonstrated its watchmaking expertise, producing an array of Manufacture movements, in-house mechanisms and several groundbreaking models, including the Masterpiece Square Wheel (2010), Masterpiece Mysterious Seconds (2013) and the Triple Rétrograde (2021). In 2014, following requests to bring back the Calypso, a former model that was discontinued in 2003, the brand’s creative team sought to reimagine it for a modern-day audience. The collection has proved a box-office sensation, incentivising the Maison to release new expressions of the Aikon.
