Antiquorum auctions an exceptional Patek Phlipppe Platinum Monopoussoir from 1939 for CHF 1,601,250 and a Diamond Pocket watch made for the Indian market for CHF 1,271,250 and closes the Geneva Fall Season with an excellent result of CHF 21,797,983 / 14,064,000 euros / US$ 16,768,000 for the combined auctions of October and November.

Antiquorum's auctions of Important Watches, Pocketwatches & Clocks was finalized with an excellent result of CHF 21,797,983 / 14,064,000 euros / US$ 16,768,000 combined for the October auction (CHF 13,506,405) and the November sale that achieved CHF 8,291,578 (US$ 6,380,000 / 5,350,000 euros). The November sale was held on Sunday at the Palace Hilton Hotel in Geneva. 82% of the lots were sold for 115% of the value.
Superb results for the two highlights of this second fall sale: the exceptional Patek Philippe Platinum Monopoussoir made in 1939, lot 250, sold for CHF 1,601,250, placing it among the 20 most important wristwatches ever sold at auction and lot 105; the fabulous “Nizam of Hyderbad” - a Diamond Pocket Watch with 7 complications made for the Indian market, sold for 1,271,250, a world record for a watch made for this market and placing it among the 20 most important Pocket- and Form watches ever sold at auction by value.
Further noteworthy watches in this sale was lot number 55; a Patek Philippe Ref. 3450, a gentleman's wristwatch in 18K yellow gold with perpetual calendar and moon phases in absolute perfect condition that sold to private collector for CHF 193,250,000.
Many of the Rolex watches achieved very high prices, including a World record: lot 233; a so-called Paul Newman Daytona model, made in 1970 in 18K yellow gold, that sold for CHF 108,100. The excitement for this brand very likely in anticipation of the upcoming spring sale of the Guido Mondani collection of Rolex Wristwatches.
All the important timepieces made for the Indian market included in this sale exceeded all previous prices.
Pocket watches and clocks sold well. The Breguet Museum was able to acquire a very important piece in lot number 65; the “Regulateur Astronomique” for CHF 226,250 .
A World Record was achieved for a Tag Heuer Watch, lot 178 a prototype of a gentleman's wristwatch “Calibre 360 concept chronograph”; that sold for 23,000. The proceeds of the watch to be donated to the Geneva Museum of Horology.
The auction room at the Palace Hilton Hotel in Geneva was full. Collectors from all over the world had come to bid. Several representatives of public collections were present such as the Breguet Museum, the Geneva Museum of Horology and the Hatot Museum. On-line bidding was strong from all over the world, especially from the Asian market including China and Taiwan, as well as Hong Kong and from the United States and Russia. 15 telephone lines had been opened to take care of the numerous clients wishing to bid by phone from Italy, France, Asia and USA. A preview had been held in Shanghai and Hong Kong, enabling the Asian clients to examine the watches and bid on distance at the sale date.

LOT 250 : “The Platinum Mono-Poussoir” Patek Philippe & Cie, Genève. Made in 1937, sold on January 17, 1939. Exceptional and possibly unique gentleman's platinum wristwatch with single button chronograph on the crown, two-tone sector dial, instantaneous 30-minute register, tachometer and a platinum Patek Philippe buckle.
