Hong Kong auction nets $6 million for Antiquorum

July 2005

Antiquorum's “Important Watches, Collectors' Wristwatches and Clocks” sale, a two-day auction held recently in Hong Kong, netted over $6 million for the auction house.

Bidders from Hong Kong, the U.S., Europe, China and Japan, among other countries, competed in person, by phone and online for the sale's 406 lots, according to an Antiquorum release.

“We are excited to see such a strong interest for our auctions in Asia, with some lots achieving two or three times their estimate,” Antiquorum CEO and President Osvaldo Patrizzi said in the statement.

A rare, minute-repeating 18-carat yellow gold men's wristwatch with a one-minute tourbillon by Patek Phillipe was the sale's top lot, fetching $412,000. The second-highest watch sale in value was a rare tonneau-shaped water-resistant platinum timepiece with a diamond-set dial in salmon pink featuring a chronograph, perpetual calendar and moon phases. Rounding out Antiquorum's top 10 Hong Kong watch sales in the auction were timepieces by A. Lange & Söhne, Rolex, Girard-Perregaux and Breguet.
