Antiquorum New York Finishes the Year on a High Note

Antiquorum New York achieved an astounding US$ 5,787,000 for its extremely successful, Important Collectors' Wristwatches, Pocket Watches & Clocks auction. Thus ending the year with a total of US$ 19,306,000 in sales. With over 250 registered bidders as well as room and phone bidders who contributed to the extraordinary results of 124 % by value and 92% by lot. Intense international competition came from countries such as Italy, Germany, Russia, Hong Kong, China, and the United States.

“This years unprecedented results confirms that New York has become a significant center for watch auctions with a total auction market of nearly US$ 36,000,000 at the three major international auction houses of which Antiquorum is responsible for approximately 54%. New York is now only exceeded by Geneva in the watch auction market.”, says Osvaldo Patrizzi, Chairman of Antiquorum Auctioneers.

The auction's top lot was a Patek Philippe Ref. 5016, an extremely fine and equally important, unique, astronomic, minute-repeating gentleman's platinum wristwatch which achieved US$ 505,500. Another watch that attracted intense competiton was the Audemars Piguet, minute-repeating, tourbillon “Cabinet Watch”, which fetched US$ 335,000. In addition, the Cartier “Art Deco” rock crystal and enamel strut timepiece sold for US$ 86,250. Two Rolex watches which sparked collector's attention were the so-called “Paul Newman” in stainless steel that sold for US$ 85,100 as well as the stainless steel “Milgauss” wristwatch which sold for US$ 82,800.
