October 2006

Antiquorum achieves outstanding prices for museum quality Breguet timepieces; among which a world record price of SFr. 1,353,000 was paid for a Breguet Silver Carriage Clock.
Antiquorum confirmed its leadership on the horological auction market during the week-end sale of 435 timepieces at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel du Rhône in Geneva. A total of SFr. 14,523,786 (US$ 11,445,000 - € 9,126,000) was achieved for the auction of which 132% was sold by value and 84% by lots.
Almost 300 online bidders were registered for this auction: mainly from Germany, USA, Great Britain, Switzerland and Spain. The total of online sales reached SFr. 1,552,580 representing 16 % by lots and 11% by value of the auction total. Even major pieces sold online; such as lot 430, a “150th Anniversary Minute Repeater” wristwatch by Patek Philippe acquired for SFr. 345,000 by a European bidder. Confirming, yet again, Antiquorum’s internet bidding success.  Some 200 clients left an online absentee bid, and over 5000 watches aficionados experienced the emotion of the auction by following the sale on the web.
Active auction participation by telephone in particular from the Asian markets but also from Japan, USA  and the Russian Federation!
Due to the high quality level and rarity of the Breguet timepieces, most of them were acquired by the Breguet Museum far beyond their estimates. The highlight, and world record breaking Breguet Carriage Clock that belonged to Prince Serge Galitzine: a silver, eight-day “Pendule a Almanach” (lot 34) sold for SFr. 1,353,000. An early minute repeating pocket watch made in 1820  “Perpetuelle àRépétition, Echappement libre” (lot 35) sold for SFr. 501,800; and the extremely fine, and important pocket watch “A Monsieur de St. Cricq” (Lot 17) achieved SFr. 423,400.
Apart from the 18th and 19th century timepieces, Patek Philippe achieved the most important results: such as the Ref. 2499 (lot 431) which fetched SFr. 434,600; the Yellow Gold Ref. 1518 that of SFr. 311,400 and the 18K pink gold Ref. 1415 HU “Worldtime” (lot 433) that sold for SFr. 221,500. Also to note: an extremely fine and elegant yellow gold Vacheron & Constantin “Ref. 4261 Very flat” (lot 56) sold for SFr. 244,200.
Further world record prices were obtained such as for a rare stainless steel Rolex Ref. 6234 “Brown Color-Change Dial” (lot 423) that sold for SFr. 233,000, surpassing previous prices paid for this reference even at the recent Mondani auction.
Never before had such a high price been paid as today for a set of 23 Omega Speedmaster watches, each with a different NASA logo, (lot 36) which sold for SFr. 164,000.  Also Audemars Piguet timepieces proved very much appreciated by collectors overstepping their high estimates by far.  A selection of Universal watches sold very well as well.
Mr. Patrizzi, Chairman and CEO of Antiquorum, said after the sale he is happy to note that the watch collectors’ market is presently very strong and new clients looking to acquire prestige watches appear all the time.
