Swissair and Swatch divorce by mutual consent

They swear they will remain friends and, who knows, do not exclude to get together again... Nevertheless, as of January 1st 2001, Swatch and Swissair have decided to break off their agreement: Swissair will thus not sell the Swatch Group's products onboard its aircrafts anymore.
The Swatch Group has sold its watches onboard Swissair planes during ten years, and that on the basis of an exclusive right to do so. In other words, since 1990, the watch items presented for onboard sale are brands possessed by the Swatch Group: Swatch, Flik Flak, Tissot, Omega, Longines, Rado, Calvin Klein, Certina, Mido, Balmain and Hamilton.
The reasons for the termination of the agreement are not overtly stated by the two parties. Swissair does not want to continue granting exclusivity to Swatch, although the latter group's spokeswoman, BÉatrice Howald, says that Swatch never demanded exclusive rights onboard Swissair's aircrafts.
Both companies have adopted the wait-and-see attitude and will observe how the consumer will react to the lack of the Swatch assortment during the flights.
